In order to ensure that your eye tracking experiment can be correctly interpreted and replicated, it is important to report the following information in the methods section of your research paper:
- Test evironment. Describe the type of room, geometry of your setup, lighting conditions surrounding your test.
- Geometry of the stimulus. Indicate the size and position of the different elements. Most commonly the unit used is visual degrees.
- Details about the eye tracking system. Model, Sampling rate, firmware. Software used and version.
- Details about the population used in the test. Age, eye color, eye shape, visual aids.
- Calibration and Calibration verification procedure. Report Accuracy and precision values.
- Include details on timing. If timing is important to your experiment include the information of the timing performance of your system. - Missing data procedure.
- Include details on how the eye movements were processed. Specify which filters and event detection algorthims were use, and report the thresholds and settings.
- Information about how AOIs were defined. Size, shape and location, as well as rational for their creation.
- Specifiy data reduction parameters. What kind of eye tracking measures were used, and how were they calculated.
- Information about exclusion criteria
